The first recording I’m sharing here is “Tennessee Whiskey,” inspired specifically by Chris Stapleton’s version of the song. I’ve used his interpretation as a starting point—a familiar frame that gave me room to explore my own take on it. I’ve been performing it for years, both solo and with several different bands. Like many singers, I was originally drawn to Stapleton’s incredible vocal delivery, and I’ll admit I tried to lean into some of that early on. Over time, though, my own phrasing and tone naturally found their way in, and the song slowly became something that felt like mine. You might notice two brief stops just before the verses. That wasn’t planned. It first happened when our drummer, Milo Jennings, accidentally dropped it at a live gig. But the effect was immediate—the verses suddenly popped—and from that moment on, it became part of how I hear the song. Another standout for me is Douglas McFetridge’s pedal steel, which floats over the track and adds a beautiful sense of space. I also replaced the traditional guitar parts with piano, which helped pull the arrangement closer to my own musical instincts. This version isn’t about trying to outdo what already exists. It’s simply my way of honouring a great song while letting it pass through the people, moments, and choices that shaped it along the way.

🎶 How This Song Was Born I have to admit — this song was inspired by a very unofficial relationship seminar I stumbled on one night: the Hot-Crazy Matrix video on YouTube. It’s that silly but strangely insightful clip that jokes about how guys categorize attraction and chaos in relationships, basically plotting out how “hot” vs. “crazy” someone is. Once I watched it, I couldn’t stop thinking: What if my girl was off the charts in both directions? 😂 So I grabbed a guitar and started writing about a girl who is everything I ever wanted — sweet, wild, a little “loco” — and despite all the joking charts and life advice, she’s the one I want beside me. In a way, that video gave me the wacky spark that turned into a heartfelt song about loving someone for exactly who they are — quirks, chaos and all. 💛

I’ve been lucky enough to play Walking in Memphis for many years now. It’s one of those songs that seems to connect no matter where you are, and it became one of my most requested tunes while working on cruise ships with Royal Caribbean, Holland America, and Norwegian Cruise Line. Night after night, different crowds, same feeling. When the world shut down in 2020, I finally had the time to slow things down and start recording from home. I also began streaming on Facebook, and once again, Walking in Memphis kept showing up in the requests. That’s when I knew it was time to give it my own recorded version. This recording also features my close friend Mark Andrie on guitar, who brought a cool, fresh vibe to the song. I’m grateful for the journey this song has taken me on, and I hope you enjoy this version as much as I enjoyed making it.
